COVID-19 Disease 2019

COVID-19 is a new disease and The US Center for Disease Control and UN World Health Organization are still learning how it spreads, the severity of illness it causes, and to what extent it may spread in the United States. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person; however, The US CDC has determined that the COVID-19 may also spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

We are here to HELP!!!

terra environmental
Terra Environmental Services offers surface sampling for COVID-19 of high contact, high-risk surfaces, and/or recently decontaminated surfaces via Surface Sampling procedures with Qualitative Sample Results, per approved CDC Methods and current international standards. Though much remains to learn about the transmission characteristics of this virus, it appears that it can survive on environmental surfaces for some time. Therefore, we can help you protect your employees from exposure, by conducting surface sampling for the virus. Businesses and employers can prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), most American workers will likely experience low (caution) or medium exposure risk levels at their job or place of employment.

Test Method

Molecular detection by PCR is currently the best approach to quickly identify the environmental presence of the virus. Due to the widespread of the virus among humans, routine Testing of surface swipes or swabs for the virus may help control environmental transmission of the virus between people. The primer sequence used in this test is identical to the primer sequence published by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Utilities:

  • Help prevent transmission of the virus on environmental surfaces.
  • Minimize human exposure to the virus.

NOTE: THIS TEST IS NOT INTENDED FOR HUMAN CLINICAL TESTING. IT IS ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLES ONLY.

Resources

Terra makes the following CDC approved recommendations to maintain a healthy workplace environment. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus:

  • Clean and disinfect.
  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
  • Clean surfaces that are frequently touched – things such as shared desks, countertops, kitchen areas, electronics, and doorknobs.
